Safe and Friendly
Our Program
Jollettes Gymnastics provides a non-competitive, recreational gymnastics program for children aged 4 to 14. Children attend classes for 1 hour per week where the emphasis is on learning gymnastics skills safely whilst having FUN.
Our program has been developed over the past 55 years with an emphasis on fun and safety for our participants as well as our coaches. Gymnasts work through sets of skills (colours) at their own pace, only moving on to attempt higher-level skills when they have mastered the lower-level lead-up skills. These, “colours” have been carefully designed to be age- and skill level-appropriate. Whilst gymnasts are encouraged to progress through these skills, there is no pressure to master any skill within a set time-frame. The idea is for them to reach their goals only when they are ready.
Although, for safety reasons, our policy is to have no more that 8-10 gymnasts per coach, we aim to have fewer than 8 gymnasts per coach, in order to allow more time for each gymnast.
Each session commences with a game to allow the gymnasts to start the session in a fun and positive way, whilst getting to know the other gymnasts and preparing them mentally for the session ahead (helping them to switch their focus from school to gym). This is followed by a warm-up to prepare the gymnasts physically for the skills they are about to attempt. Each session concludes with a cool down activity.
Our Staff
In 2010, Jollettes gymnastics launched a brand new training and accreditation
program, which has been developed exclusively for our club, to improve the
skills of our coaches and volunteers. This program covers all aspects of SISSGYN201A
- "Teach Fundamental Gymnastic Skills" as determined by the Australian Skills
Quality Authority. This unit forms part of the Certificate II in Sport Coaching.
The system is designed around
the
successful
colour award
program for participants already
existing
within
Jollettes.
Now
coaches and volunteers can access information on how to coach and develop each
skill, including video footage, key coaching points, safety aspects and developmental
tools. In this way they are constantly learning new ways to assist our members.
Along with this TAP program, coaches attend regular hands-on training workshops
as well as being mentored by their Franchisee, Head Coach and other senior
coaches during our gymnastics sessions.
In order to provide the safest and highest quality experience for participants, our Head Coaches must be Level 1 (or equivalent) Accredited Coaches. We pride ourselves on having not one but two accredited coaches in the majority of our centres.
Many of our coaches are either former Jollettes gymnasts or adults who have children attending Jollettes. This creates a positive and fun atmosphere as the children often know their coaches outside the gym classes. Regardless of how they became coaches, all of our staff have current Working With Children checks and are all required to complete our Training and Accreditation Program.
Our Front Desk Administrators are there to assist members, parent and spectators to gain the most enjoyment from our gymnastics sessions. They are often the link between you and the coaches, who may not be available to talk to you during the session as they are busy coaching your children.
Our FDA’s are very knowledgeable in most aspects of Jollettes Gymnastics’ operations and can guide you to sources of information they may not be able to provide themselves.
First Aid
There is always at least 1 Senior First Aid accredited person and appropriate first aid supplies at our centres to provide first aid to any member or spectator who injures themselves.
Our Equipment
During our sessions we use recognised gymnastics apparatus such as Uneven Bars, Parallel Bars, High Beams, Low Beams, Trampets, Vaults, Tumbling Mats etc. Whilst the majority of the equipment we use in our centres belongs not to Jollettes, but the venue itself, we have mechanisms in place to ensure that the equipment and venues we use are safe and well maintained. This is done through observations made during each session as well as regular venue and equipment valuations which are performed by Jollettes staff as per our Equipment Safety Policy (1.4)
Policies
Jollettes Gymnastics operates under a set of policies and procedures designed to ensure that all sessions are run in a safe, friendly and professional manner with our members’ wellbeing as our highest priority. Our policies can be viewed at each centre, or from this website by clicking on the policies link.
