Jollettes Gymnastics

Programs and Events

Recreational Gymnastics
Recreational Gymnastics is a sport for every one, regardless of age, gender or ability. It is the perfect activity to prepare children for long-term participation in sport and develops vital life skills.

The recreational program covers the 6 Dominant Movement Patterns (DMP’s) in gymnastics. These include Landings, Locomotion, Spring, Swing, Rotation and Static. We include these in the Term Unit Plan, Lesson Plans and even have Theme Day’s which focus on a particular DMP for that session e.g. Landing Day.

Each session commences with a game to allow the gymnasts to start the session in a fun and positive way, whilst getting to know the other gymnasts and preparing them mentally for the session ahead (helping them to switch their focus from school to gym). This is followed by a warm-up to prepare the gymnasts physically for the skills they are about to attempt. The children are then divide into groups of 8 to 10 per group and they rotate on the different apparatus including, trampet, vault, bars, beam, special skills and tumbling. Each session concludes with a cool down activity.

Development Squad
Although Jollettes Gymnastics' emphasis is on Recreational Gymnastics with access for children of ALL skill levels, we recognise that some of our members reach a stage where they might benefit from learning more challenging skills and a longer training session (Generally 2 hours per week instead of 1). Whilst our focus is still primarily on having fun (there are other gymnastics clubs such as WAIS to whom we can refer members if they want to move up to the more stringent competitive gymnastics), our Development Squad members do take part in our In-House competitions (both locally and Jollettes-wide). These competitions give them a chance to show off the skills they have mastered and provides a little friendly competition. Our Development Squad members also take part in various displays throughout the year. Look for us at your local Community Show.

Our Development Squads are usually filled via invitation. Our Development Squad and Head Coaches are always looking out for gymnasts who might be ready to join the squads. Periodically, gymnasts will be asked to "try out" for the squad. These tryouts often take place towards the end of the year to fill spots left vacant by current squad members who might be leaving. As the Development Squads are generally restricted to a specific number of members to allow for the most effective coaching ratio, there are times where gymnasts might be ready for the squad but the squad isn't ready for them. We try to keep these delays as short as possible.

The following Jollettes centres host Development Squads. Please click on the individual Location to obtain contact details.

Airfloor Tumbling
Have fun and learn tumbling skills on the New ‘AirFloor’, an inflatable tumbling track with a spring similar to a trampoline. Enjoy a fun-filled hour of physical fitness learning basic spring, landing and tumbling skills on a safe, soft surface designed to alleviate jarring to the body.

Unlike the Recreational Gymnastic program that is conducted in a basketball court size venue, the AirFloor Tumbling Program is mobile with all equipment transported in a trailer and easily set up in smaller venues similar to primary school undercover areas and small local community centres.

This program incorporates the use of the specialized equipment from Europe and the USA, like mini bars and beam, the AirFloor, Launch Pad and backflip chair. Matting is used under all equipment to maintain a safe environment for the children.

In-school provider
Jollettes Gymnastics has a fun and exciting AirFloor Tumbling program for your students. The AirFloor is an inflatable tumbling track imported from Europe. We’re offering your students the opportunity to have a 1/2 hour of fun physical fitness, learning basic gymnastic and tumbling skills on a safe, soft surface to alleviate jarring to the body.

We can customise the program to meet the needs of the students and school community. We assist in the provision of information on each student that has a clear link to the K-3 syllabus outcomes to assist teachers’ assessment and reporting requirements.

When required we will evaluate lessons with teachers and / or other school staff as to any feedback regarding the program’s effectiveness. We also provide professional learning opportunities for teachers to enable them to develop their skills in this area.

We provide activities to meet the stage of development and learning needs of each student and aim to provide alternative activities for students who can not participate due to physical, socioeconomic, cultural and / or religious backgrounds.

Jollettes Gymnastics provides specialised gymnastic equipment to be used in the lessons. Equipment is evaluated and maintained constantly to ensure the safety of the students. We provide links to local community groups so the students can continue gymnastics outside school time.

Staff Training and Accreditation Program (TAP)
In 2010, Jollettes gymnastics launched a brand new training and accreditation program, which has been developed exclusively for our club, to improve the skills of our coaches and volunteers. The system is designed around the successful colour award program for participants already existing within Jollettes. Now coaches and volunteers can access information on how to coach and develop each skill, including video footage, key coaching points, safety aspects and developmental tools. In this way they are constantly learning new ways to assist our members. Along with this TAP program, coaches attend regular hands-on training workshops as well as being mentored by their Franchisee, Head Coach and other senior coaches during our gymnastics sessions.

EVENTS

With the events mentioned below, information on when they will be held is shown on the Term Calendar / Newsletter. Notes will be distributed for all special events.

Colour Awards
Although Jollettes Gymnastics focuses on Fun and Fitness instead of competition, everybody needs goals to aim for to achieve personal satisfaction. That’s where our Colour Award scheme comes in.

Colour Award Procedure
Purchase a Colour Award Card from the Front Desk Administrator $4.00. Students 5 years and under commence on the Purple Colour Award card. Students 6 years and over commence on the Yellow Colour Award card. Colours following are – Blue, Orange, Red, Green, White, Silver and Gold.

Skills will be assessed on all apparatus with each skill being a progression to the next colour. If the student is having difficulty with a skill, the assessor will place their initials under the box marked 1 meaning they need more work on that particular skill to progress successfully through the Colour Award Scheme.

Gymnasts will be awarded with a coloured stripe once they have completed a 2 or 3 level on each skill in their Colour Award. Colour stripes are to be sewn on to the left hand side of the gymnast’s leotard or t-shirt.

Colour Award Days can be quite busy so we do ask parents if you have any quires regarding the assessment of your child, please see your Head Coach prior to the commencement of the class.
