Jollettes Gymnastics

Frequently Asked Questions (Excuses)

Aren’t I too old?
No – Our youngest coach (assistant) is 12 and our oldest is in her early 50’s and that doesn’t include our founder Nelleck Jol (rumour has it she’s somewhere in her 70’s but you didn’t hear that from me) who still keeps her hand in occasionally.

I’m not fit enough
Possibly not right now – However it doesn’t take long to get your fitness levels (and flexibility) back. Although coaching can be very demanding physically, all coaches’ physical abilities and restrictions are taken into account when lesson plans are developed. Coaches will not be asked to do anything they are not physically capable of or are not sufficiently trained for.

I haven’t done gymnastics since I was a kid
It doesn’t matter – Jollettes Gymnastics prides itself on its in-house training. The most important skills you need are enthusiasm, commitment and a desire to work with children to help them have FUN. We can teach you the rest.

How much time do I have to give?
Each class runs for 1 hour, with 2 or 3 classes per afternoon/evening at each centre. You will be required to arrive approximately 15 minutes before your first class starts to allow you to greet your Head Coach, familiarise yourself with the lesson plan and what apparatus/duties you are assigned to and prepare for the class. From time to time you will also be required to attend specified training sessions and there are several other exciting external activities you may be invited to participate in.

How and when do I get paid?
On the last day of each term, you will receive payment for the hours you have worked during the term, by either cheque, cash or direct deposit (depending on Head Office procedures at the time).

How much do I get paid?
Please go to our website www.jollettes.com.au for the schedule of wages, which is based on the minimum hourly rate set by DOCEP. Additionally, if you have children participating in the gym class you are coaching, your child can participate at a reduced rate.

What sort of training do I get?
Jollettes Gymnastics has a comprehensive in-house training program for coaches which includes, specified training and induction sessions, ongoing training/mentoring from your Head Coach and a Coaches’ Colour Award program which is similar to the Colour Award program for gymnasts which forms the basis of our lesson plans, but also includes coaching skills such as communication, administration and skill development.

How far can I go with Jollettes Gymnastics?
The sky’s the limit – literally. Below is an example of a career path taken by one of our team (in less than 6 years). There are many other paths available, however there is no obligation to take this any further than suits your lifestyle.

I’m interested, what do I do now?
Great! Go and talk to the Head Coach at your nearest centre (if applicable) or call Renay Jol on 9205 1205.
